I needed to paint something before the weekend since I won't have time then!
This is an old old RP character of mine, the highwayman Philippe Cardew. Odd name? Well, I named him after the French skater Philippe Candeloro, and after Cecily Cardew from The Importance of Being Earnest. The characters origins are as a franco-scot, but that doesn't really apply anymore since it's a fantasy setting. So, Philippe likes to hold up travellers on the road and steal their valuables at gunpoint. I haven't played this character since about 2006, but I decided he gets a portrait.
There's a few things I'm pleased with here. I painted his clothing and hat without any real reference, and combined the features of more than one model to make the face. The lace detail is done with a lace brush, and I used textures from cgtextures.com
I was going to paint him holding a gun, but I thought a fist and flintlock in the image would distract too much from the face. Oh, and his hair's not actually reddish. He has dark brown hair, but those colours looked way too flat with the green tones of the rest of the image.
Excellent work. Though to be honest I don't care for the background much... however that doesn't detract any from the image on the whole. He's kinda cute actually.
And yeah, I couldn't be screwed doing anything amazing for the background, so I ended up just slapping together something generic. Thank you for the awesome comments as usual! If I keep you happy, then kaybne I won't typone so much.

I like the idea of chocolate cake better than the cake itself.
"Why do you wear a mask? Were you burned by acid or something?" "Oh no, it's just they're terribly comfortable. I think everyone will be wearing them in the future."
What a handsome drawing! You keep getting better with every single piece you do.
he's not just cute--he's hot. :]
very nicely done, sir.
