I hadn't done my RP character, Devin, in awhile, so I thought it was about time I came up with a new image for his profile and get in a bit of practice at the same time.
In this piece, I've used a much much larger canvas size to work with (as so many of you have suggested to me to try), and I think it works really well. It's so easy to do detail, and it's also a great way to hide the messiness of my blending! I've also tried to do a more complete background than I normally do, because I'm starting to think the backgrounds of many of my past works look bland. Yes, this background was blurred, but to give a contrast to the sharpness of detail on the figure. Even though doing a quick scribbly background and then blurring it is a bit lazy, I do like the way it looks.

Overall Vision Originality
Technique ImpactFirstly.. what a handsome character he is! He reminds me somewhat of a character in a book I once read. I love how you painted him in a formal yet quite relaxed way - his hands in his pockets, the glint in his eyes and that cheeky smile certainly add an air of mischief about him whilst maintaining quite a gentlemanly look.
I love the detail in his clothing but the only thing that distracts me somewhat is that lone white cuff sticking out of his pocket.. it seems to be too contrasted against the darkness of the rest of his attire.. and kind of looks a little out of place.
I love the background - you get a sense that he's at some sort of evening ball or fancy pants dinner and the women in the back are being rather nosey trying to see what's going on!
The ceiling is beautiful, although perhaps a little on the 'rushed' side.. even so - you've still managed to capture some of the detail in there and it again adds to the whole 'formal do' vibe.
This image conveys a lot of things all at the same time whether it be mischief, class, grandure, playfulness, romance etc You've managed to capture each one in it's own little way.. and damn.. I think I have the hots for Devin <img src="e.deviantart.net/emoticons/e/e…" width="18" height="15" alt="
